The first glance into 3D solar monitoring concept

While monitoring and asset management software has substantially evolved over the past two decades, it seems the industry has yet found a perfect tool for monitoring multiple energy devices. With a growing size of PV fleets and in parallel a growing size of PV fields - the number of monitored components is dramatically increasing and hence the need for proper control and monitoring tools for the operator to be able to manage more devices by an order of magnitude. This is even further emphasized by the fact that electricity storage is now massively entering the energy playground.

An interesting approach to resolve the issue is the 3D Monitoring concept, which has already been implemented in some industrial segments. The concept relies on the somewhat abandoned 3D imagery attempted to be implemented in cinema more than a decade ago - utilizing 3D glasses to enable viewers a three dimensional perception of visual data. Despite the lack of success in the cinema, the concept is never the less very interesting to enable layered visual data processing for human operators - who would be able to process 3-5 times more data with their eyes. Technologically, this merely implies a use of simple 3D glasses by an operator, though a more sophisticated approach in terms of visual data presentation in dynamic layered 3D images.

Figure 1. First glance into the currently developed revolutionary 3D monitoring concept chart, enabling 3-5 times more data processed per operator at any given time (note: 3D glasses are required to properly view the image).

How can you make your assets perform better to ensure a more efficient energy production and therefore higher yields and financial feasibility of projects? The answer is software-induced solutions and better maintenance. Some research has proven that better maintained solar sites can produce up to 20% more energy - the clear answer to the motivation behind embedding better monitoring tools.
